Ghana Bamboo Bikes achieve 70 percent of target

The Ghana Bamboo Bikes Initiative achieved about 70 percent of its production target for 2011.

The environmental NGO exported 50 bicycles to Austria, 10 to China and five to the USA.

Ghana Bamboo Bikes design, develop and market multi-purpose bikes and related products and services using native bamboo.

Huawei, the Chinese telecoms giant which makes infrastructure for companies including BT, will use Britain as the launch-pad for its drive to become one of the biggest smartphone brands.

Ghana Exports 62,000 Tonnes Bananas

Local producers in Ghana exported 62,000 tonnes of bananas to the Eurozone last year.

Bananas are the most exported fruits in terms of volume and they rank second after citrus fruit in terms of value.

Freight Forwarders Jab Shippers

Freight forwarders at Tema have accused the Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA) of trying to usurp the functions of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) unconventionally to extort monies from them.

At a press conference at Tema, the freight forwarders, led by Jonathan Amanor, chairman of the Tema branch of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF), noted that the proposed Ghana Shippers' Authority regulation, through which GSA is seeking to short-circuit freight forwarders, should be ignored.

Taxi Drivers Threaten AMA

Commercial drivers who are not affiliated to transport unions within the Accra Metropolis have expressed worry over frequent arrests by city guards.

The drivers, who claim their vehicles are regularly impounded by AMA guards, have threatened to drag the Assembly and its boss, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, to the court for unlawful arrests.

Lotto Union React To NLA's Claim

The National Lotto Receivers' Union has refuted claims by the National Lottery Authority (NLA), the industry's regulator that it loses an average GH¢100 million per year through the activities of illegal operators.

The lotto receivers alleged that the lost of revenue by NLA has nothing to do with operators in the business.
