At a brief handing over ceremony, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Government, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said the equipment was to adequately resource the MMDAs to effectively handle feeder roads construction and other related works to open-up the rural communities to facilitate local economic development.
He was delighted to add that the 'intervention is designed to give MMDAs and local contractors advantage and also position them to contribute their quota in the implementation of development programmes and projects at the local level'.
The Managing Director of J.A Plant Pool Ghana Ltd, Mr. Lolu Akindele, revealed that so far 85 MMDAs' have benefitted from the package with over 100 equipment and trucks distributed to them.
He appealed to the government to promulgate and enforce the Local Content law, which will compel all foreign contractors to subcontract at least 40% of all contract jobs to local contractors.
Mr. Akindele commended the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives who have participated in the programme for their vision and commitment to development, and urged all those who are yet to participate in the programme to join the train so as to facilitate the smooth development of the assemblies.
