Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the recently replaced acting Managing Director of GOIL says he is grateful to the Board, Management and staff of the company for the co-operation and loyal support he received for the past six months during which he managed the largest existing indigenous oil marketing outfit in the country.
In an interview with B&FT, Mr. Kojo Bonsu said he was happy that the company achieved modest financial gains, improvement in staff motivation and moral, improvement in debt collection and corporate visibility during his short tenure as Acting Managing Director.
He said the discovery of crude oil in Ghana has heightened competition in the oil industry and his administration had to initiate pragmatic strategies that could make GOIL, the oil marketing company of choice in the country in the coming years. Increase in the volume of sales of GOIL products for the past six months did not come by accident. With the support of the Board, my administration organized a three-day brainstorming marketing workshop for the sales and Marketing staff at Sogakope in the Volta Region, he added.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu said in November last year the company organized an event called GOILY DAY at some selected filling stations in the Accra-Tema Metropolis; and this enabled Goil workers to get closer to both existing and potential customers, share information on Goil products and services and attend to customers' complaints.
The 'Goily Day' concept, for me, was to remind Goil workers that as a marketing company, our business was not in the office but at the filling stations. Within the short period of six months that I acted as Managing Director, I also managed to improve the Corporate visibility of Goil by creating conceptual adverts and documentaries aimed at reminding the motoring public that Goil was a proud Ghanaian Company. The Board also approved my presentation for the rebranding of Goil this year, Mr. Kojo Bonsu added.
Last week an Accra Daily reported that Mr. Kojo Bonsu has been booted out of office as acting Managing Director of Goil following a crisis in the company.
A press statement from Goil, however has dismissed the story as a misrepresentation of the facts.
In the said statement, the Management of Goil explained that Mr. Kojo Bonsu, who is a member of the Board of Directors, was mandated to act as Managing Director from 1st August 2011-31st January 2012.
Mr. Kojo Bonsu's impressive output during his 6-month tenure is viewed with admiration by the Board, Management and staff; and he certainly was not booted out, the statement added.
