The launch which was graced by some important bodies in the movie industry and individual players as well was slated for an undisclosed date but was only told will be held in Kumasi somewhere Decemeber.
Speaking to some individual actors and players in the industry they hinted that it was a good step taking and they belive this is going to go a long way in shaping the local movie industry and also put actors on their toes to give all out in terms of the talents they have. In separte interviews with some actors, this is what they have to say;
KING ABOAGYE BRENYA: I see this to be a good start and something very good for the industry. It is always good to be united in every organisation so seeing my colleagues come together like this, I must say it something really good. I believe this is something to bring all local language speaking movie together being it Twi, Hausa, Ewe, Ga, Fante, e.t.c. I am
ERIC OWUSU ASANTE (NO LIMIT ENTERTAINMENT: Oh, I think right from day one they came to us for our views and opinions as in how to come up with the whole kumawood thing which will come for us to benefit as actors. So I am very happy that at-least people have accepted and recognized our efforts in the industry. I believe this will help the upcoming talents to work hard and it will also be easy to convince someone to do the acting career.This will encourage us more in our career.
SAMY OFORI: I must say it a good course and I think it deserve a helping hand. Even though this is just the beginning, I'm supporting it all out and wouldn't want to say much. Any work without recognition to me it not worth it so since they've recognize our efforts and are putting together something like this, I think all we should pray for is truth and transparency.
MARY AFRIYIE FORSON: I think it a good thing for the whole industry. It only a pity that it wasn't there when people like us got into the industry. Assuming it was there before I got into the industry, I would've being more than who I am today or perhaps I would've receive more awards by now. I believe it in the right direction. I believe this will go a long way in honoring the whole of Ashanti region.
ANDREWS KOFI DUODU: Emmm... I think it the best, it good to have the kumawwod thing existing now because personally I've shoot a couple of glamour movies but I think the kind of impact that i have when I shoot what some people have termed "local movie" is much bigger than what I get from the glamour movies. I believe it will put us and the industry at large in a very good shape. Right from the on set this is something I've being wishing for and I think it will put everybody on his/her toes.
SAMUEL KWABENA DARKO (FOUNDER): I think this is about kumasi movies and we are targetting at bringing all movies bodies under one umbrella in the name of putting our industry in a good shape. This is for all local dialogue movie which is marketing the name of the country. The industry would have be in a more good shape than it is today if this was done or was there some time ago. I pray all industrial players will join hands and come together so we can do this to sell the name of Ghana outside.
MR. TWUMASI: I think the whole thing being done or seen here today is a very good thing and it is in the right direction. It is high time we appreciate what we have and support the things done by our own people here in Ghana. All we looking at is to support and encourage all movie makers who portray the Ghanaian traditions and customs and not just the Akan language. We need to do this so we don't lose our tradition. Movie is suppose to entertain, educate and inform, so we need to do this in encouraging these movie makers to portray this customs and do that well. We don't have to do anything that will miss-inform the public about our customs and tradition. We are instituting the award to encourage creativity as well so I believe it will help very well. We only want to recognize our own and not to isolate ourselves from the general Ghanamovie awards, not at all.
EMELIA BROBBEY: I welcome everything that comes into the movie industry. I believe this will serve as a motivation for all actors and movie makers and will urge all to work extra harder to do quality work. I think this is something we all need to embrace as industrial players or movie makers. I think this would have urge people to work harder if it was there sometime back and many would have enjoyed the work of movie making than it is now. Even though I'm not aware of movies submitted so far but I believe in the work I do, so I wouldn't be surprise if I'm awarded on the night. I can't predict the number of awrds that I will win now but Lets wait till the day comes....
